What a Solar Return session looks like
Hi everyone!
I’m in the midst of preparing for a client session where we will take a look at what’s going on in the year ahead. For this session, I’ve prepared a solar return to analyze and digest with my client. I thought I’d show you all what a solar return chart looks like and how I structure the material for clients to absorb.
Astrology Solar Return chart with Timestamps and Tables for Planetary degrees and House Cusps
So what is a Solar Return?
A Solar Return is special astrological chart that we generate each year when the Sun returns to the exact degrees it occupied when you were born. People also call it a “birthday return”. Each year has new astrological themes for you to learn and unpack, and can be overlaid with your core understanding of your natal chart for ultimate self-discovery. The Solar Return chart will last for approximately one year, as you will have another birthday next year, and thus a new Solar return chart.
My Approach
I incorporate a time tracking system into my Solar Return analysis. Each aspect figure displayed in the Solar Return Chart tells us about an energetic dynamic or archetypal lesson that will unfold overtime. We can tell when the main timestamps are by looking at when the transiting Sun moves to the same degree as a planet in the Solar Return Chart that holds the activation for that particular aspect figure.
Along with the Solar Return chart with Timestamp, I include my analysis of all the different aspect figures that will occur throughout the year. Each little picture of the aspect figure show the planetary symbols of which planets are involved in that aspect figure. You can then cross-reference the little image onto the main Solar Return chart to see the aspect figure amongst everything else. Part of Astrological counseling is the counseling part. I fully expect that clients need time and facilitation as we move through the information that Source has to share about the year ahead. This is where my training as a psychotherapist kicks into gear. We can discuss what parts of the astrological analysis feels new and unfamiliar, what feels scary, or what feels positively resonant.
Walkthrough of How to Use the Timing System
Let’s say we read the description for the first aspect figure #1 Dominant Triangle and we want to know when this archetypal experience will play out. This aspect figure involves the Sun, Saturn, and Jupiter, We’ll go and take a look at the Solar Return Chart with Timestamps to find those specific planets. In this Solar Return chart, the Sun will be activated on December 13, 2025, Saturn will be activated on March 15, 2026, and Jupiter will be activated on July 15, 2026. I encourage clients to do some journaling around and after those dates occur. When you experience one activation in isolation, it might feel like nothing is really happening. But after you experienced more or all of the activation dates, the theme of what Source is trying to teach you will become evident in the experiences you have had.
If you’re curious about where these descriptions like “Learning Triangle” come from, they are a system of aspect figures used in Huber Astrology. I use Huber Astrology because it is the most aligned with psychotherapeutic orientation. This system provides the astrological language and technique to work very well with client’s self-growth and deep psychological knowingness.
